The Gallup Student Poll, a web-based survey, empowers schools to add the voice of their students to measures of school success. With nearly 5 million completes since 2009, the survey helps educators provide a more positive school culture -- one that builds engagement, creates hope for the future, fosters talent and prepares students to meaningfully participate in the economy.

Gallup Student Poll measures are linked to desirable learning outcomes in 5th through 12th grade, including self-reported grades, perception of school success and self-reported absenteeism. The 24 core items on the Gallup Student Poll measure and provide actionable data on four dimensions of student success:

  • engagement - the involvement in and enthusiasm for school
  • hope - the ideas and energy students have for the future
  • entrepreneurial aspiration - the talent and energy necessary to build businesses that survive, thrive and employ others
  • financial/career literacy - the information, attitudes and behaviors that students need for healthy participation in the economy

THE IMPACT OF ENGAGEMENT AND HOPE
Engaged students are:

  • 2.5 times more likely to strongly disagree that they get excellent grades.
  • 2.5 times more likely to strongly agree they do well in school.
  • 4.5 times more likely to be hopeful than their actively disengaged peers.

Hopeful students are:

  • 2.8 times more likely to say they get excellent grades.
  • 3.1 times more likely to strongly agree they do well in school.
  • 4.1 times more likely to be engaged in school.
  • 2.2 times more likely to say they miss a lot of school.

CAPTURE THE VOICE OF YOUR STUDENTS
The Gallup Student Poll is administered in the fall of each school year. It takes about 10 minutes to complete. Schools may participate at no cost. Students can take the survey anytime between Monday and Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. CT during the survey period.

All data collected by the Gallup Student Poll is stored, aggregated, and analyzed by Gallup. Data are reported by school and by district and are accessible via an online scorecard. Under no circumstances will Gallup reveal a student's individual item responses to anyone.
